Background of the Study
The rapid evolution of digital media has significantly transformed the landscape of political communication and electoral campaigns. In Maiduguri, Borno State, the adoption of digital motion graphics in election campaigns has emerged as a dynamic tool for engaging voters and disseminating political messages. Digital motion graphics combine animation, video, and graphic design elements to create visually compelling content that captures the audience’s attention and simplifies complex political narratives (Adams, 2023). With increasing internet penetration and mobile technology use, political campaigns are leveraging these graphics to reach a broader audience. This innovative approach redefines traditional messaging by integrating aesthetics with persuasive storytelling, thereby enhancing voter engagement and participation (Bello, 2024). These graphics enable political candidates to communicate policies and visions in accessible formats. By using animated charts, infographics, and dynamic effects, digital motion graphics break down complex issues into easily digestible segments (Oduah, 2023). Moreover, the interactive nature of these visuals allows for real-time updates, keeping campaigns responsive to emerging trends. This study investigates how digital motion graphics shape voter perceptions and influence electoral outcomes in Maiduguri. It examines the creative processes behind their production, the strategies for dissemination, and the overall impact on voter engagement and campaign success (Chen, 2025). The research underscores the importance of visual communication in modern political campaigns and seeks to provide empirical evidence on the efficacy of these digital tools in enhancing electoral participation.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing use of digital motion graphics in election campaigns, significant challenges persist in Maiduguri. A primary issue is the digital divide, where disparities in internet access and digital literacy may restrict the reach of these innovative campaign tools. While digital graphics provide a modern communication method, segments of the population with limited connectivity may be excluded, leading to inequitable information dissemination (Eze, 2023). Additionally, the rapid production and circulation of digital content have made it easier for misinformation and propaganda to spread, distorting political narratives and undermining the electoral process (Okafor, 2024). High production costs also limit the use of sophisticated graphics to well-funded campaigns, potentially marginalizing candidates with fewer resources. This study aims to explore these issues by examining the role of digital motion graphics in shaping voter perceptions and influencing electoral outcomes, while also identifying the challenges of digital accessibility and resource disparities (Ibrahim, 2025).
